DocGress ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a Chrome extension that adds writing goal tracking to Google Docs. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

When you use DocGress, we may collect:

Google account information: if you choose to sign in, we receive your email address and display name from Google OAuth. Sign-in is entirely optional.
Goal settings: the names, types, and targets of writing goals you create. These are stored locally in your browser by default.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

DocGress reads the text content of Google Docs you have open in order to compute word counts, character counts, sentence counts, paragraph counts, and reading time. This text is processed entirely within your browser and is never transmitted to our servers.

We do not log, store, or transmit the content of your documents.

1.3 Usage Data

We do not collect analytics, crash reports, or usage telemetry at this time.

2. How We Use Your Information

To display real-time writing goal progress within Google Docs
To persist your goals between browser sessions via localStorage
To authenticate your Google account for accessing Google Docs

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Data Storage

Goal settings are stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage, keyed by the Google Doc ID. We do not store goal data on our servers. localStorage is managed by your browser and persists between sessions until you clear browser data or uninstall the extension. You can delete goals individually through the extension UI or clear all extension data by uninstalling.

4. Data Security

We implement the following security measures to protect your data:

Secure Authentication: We use Google OAuth 2.0 with the Chrome identity API, which uses industry-standard security protocols. Your access tokens are managed by the browser's secure storage.
No Transmission of Document Content: Document text is processed entirely within your browser. We never store or transmit the content of your documents to our servers.
Browser-Local Storage: Goal settings are stored only in your browser's localStorage, which is isolated to your local machine and not transmitted to our servers.
HTTPS for API Communication: All communication with Google APIs uses HTTPS with TLS encryption.
No Third-Party Sharing: We do not transmit, sell, or share your goals, document content, or personal information with third parties.

5. Google API Services

DocGress uses the Google Docs API to read document content for word counting purposes. Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

6. Children's Privacy

DocGress is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
